GRANDPARENTING

Look At The Stars

I preached a sermon a while ago on Psalm 19 where the Psalmist says, “The heavens declare the glory of God and the sky above proclaims his handiwork”. My first point was Look for Amazing.

My wife has a bucket list of things she wants us to experience. At the top of that list was to see the Northern Lights. We decided to make a trip to Norway where we would have the best chance to see them. They were spectacular. We went there looking for the glory of God in the heavens, so we were constantly looking up at the sky. We got away from the city lights so the colors would be even more vibrant.

In Genesis, God told Abraham to look at the stars and then He promised him a son and with that son a host of descendants. Abraham must have stepped outside his tent and stared up at the heavens with hope and wonder.

I have 3 children and now 7 grandchildren. If you are reading this then you have grandchildren. STOP! Think about that just for a minute. You have lived long enough to see your children’s children. Some of them have your smile, one might have your sense of humor, or your shyness.

Every once in a while, I want to look at my children and my grandchildren the way I looked up at the sky at the Northern Lights. They are every bit as amazing. I am not Abraham, but I am Joe, and I look at the sky and see at least a bit of what Abraham saw, and my heart is filled with hope and wonder. I hope you will join me.

Look for amazing,

Pastor Joe
